What We Do

Early literacy intervention lays the cornerstone for lifelong success in education and beyond.

The formative years of primary school serve as a critical period where foundational literacy skills are developed. Research consistently shows that intervening early in a child's education can significantly impact their future academic achievements.

By addressing literacy challenges during these crucial early years, we not only equip children with essential reading and writing skills but also instill confidence and a positive attitude towards learning.

Investing in early literacy intervention ensures that every child has the opportunity to grow and learn, setting them on a trajectory for academic excellence and lifelong success.

Educational Assessments

Our team is clinically trained to administer standardised Educational Assessments. Educational assessments help identify your child’s strengths and difficulties in academic areas such as reading, spelling and writing, enabling us to target our intervention lessons to your child's specific needs. We assess your child prior to the first lesson in their Stars journey. Progress is monitored throughout the term.

  • Learning Disability
Our Educational Psychologist specialises in investigating specific learning disabilities (SLDs) such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and/or dyscalculia. Our comprehensive assessment process helps us understand your child's learning strengths and difficulties, make a diagnosis (if relevant) and offer tailored recommendations to help families and schools create effective learning support plans.
  • Comprehensive Literacy Assessment
Our Comprehensive Literacy Assessment consists of three standardised assessment tools that identify areas of strength and weakness in a student's foundational phonics skills, providing valuable insights for targeted instruction and intervention to support their literacy development. A results report is prepared with observations and notes for teachers and parents.
  • Initial Phonics Screener
Our Initial Phonics Screener aims to provide a snapshot of a student's phonics skills and identify specific areas that may require further attention or reinforcement. It helps teachers tailor their instruction to meet individual learning needs and supports the development of foundational literacy skills. These screeners accompany the synthetic phonics programs used at Stars. This assessment will take place prior to the student's initial lesson.

Explicit Literacy Teaching

Through targeted, explicit teaching and engaging activities, we strive to empower young learners to overcome literacy challenges using structured synthetic phonics programs that are grounded in the latest educational research and are based on the Science of Reading such as Sounds-Write, UFLI Foundations, and Heggerty.

All lessons align with the Victorian government school terms and are 50mins, 1-2 times a week.

School Kids

In-School Sessions

Unlike traditional after-school activities that require additional commuting, our in-school approach ensures convenience for both you and your child.

Our team will coordinate with Learning Support Coordinators and Generalist Teachers to organise our literacy intervention sessions during regular school hours (with school permission). Parents can rest assured that their child is receiving the essential assistance they need without the logistical challenges of arranging after school activities.

This seamless integration into the school day not only maximises learning time but also provides a consistent and familiar environment for your child's educational journey.

In the Classroom

English Language Learning

Melbourne is one of the most vibrant and multicultural cities in the world, and strong English skills are essential for young learners to connect, thrive, and succeed in school.

At Stars, we can support your primary school student in developing skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through fun, interactive lessons making English accessible and enjoyable.

We assess each child to determine their current proficiency level and then using engaging, age-appropriate resources, we focus on building conversational English skills alongside academic language, fostering both confidence and fluency.

Lessons incorporate interactive activities, games, and real-world scenarios to make learning meaningful. Whether your child is just starting to learn English or enhancing existing skills, our program ensures steady progress in a supportive, encouraging environment.

Preschool Class

Ready for Prep

Our Ready for Prep program caters to Pre-Prep students and are offered 1:1, in small groups, or ELC wide.

Each lesson focuses on early literacy, teaching phonological and phonemic awareness skills such as rhyme, listening for sounds, and language and alphabet awareness, all taught in a systematic progression, using engaging nursery rhymes and language play.
